Buy Storm Shutters While There Is Yet Time

It is impossible to overstress the importance of storm shutters or so-called hurricane shutters. This is the USA where a lot of states suffer from fierce hurricanes every year. That is why practically all homes in Florida, Texas, Georgia, Alabama and other states have storm shutters. A broken window is bad, but it is nothing in comparison with the collapsed roof. Storm shutters prevent windows from breakage and in this way cut the likelihood of the roof collapse. If you want your home to endure the hurricane, you need them.

Most US manufacturers dealing with shutters offer storm shutters. One of them is AGI Group. This company developed a special line known as Legends Line which comprises Bahama, colonial, accordion and roll-up shutters, the most common types of storm shutters.

But in this article we would like to talk not about leading manufacturers of hurricane shutters, but about their installation. The first stage is, of course, planning. You should think whether you need an assistant. Consult a professional as for the type of shutters which will protect your home best of all. Measure window and door frames before buying shutters. Decide whether you will install them inside or outside. Make a sketch. Check whether you have all necessary tools and only after it begin installation. Shutters should be of larger size than window frames. It means when ordering shutters you should add 4" at the bottom and 4" at the top of the window. Measure 3" under the window frame and above it and mark the holes. Then drill the holes for bolts. The holes should be cleaned out and tapped. Insert bolts, but leave 1/2" to put shutters on the place and only after it tighten them. There are also types of storm shutters incorporating tracks and bolts. A process of their installation differs a little.
