When Choosing A Lamp Shadecategory Shades, posted April 9, 2011In fact the main problem is a process of selection. Someone is looking for a standard-lamp or a pin-up lamp, someone wants to buy a reading lamp and, of course, everyone needs a ceiling luminaire. The basic type of the lamp shade looks like a bell. It consists of two wire circles and material stretched between them. The most widespread forms of lamp shades are a drum, a cube, a bell, an oval, a hexagon and a curl. Which form will match interior of your room? As for material there are shades made of glass, silk or other fabric, paper, etc. Depending on material, lamp shades are divided into soft and hard. When buying the lamp shade take into consideration style and color, size and shape not only of the shade, but of its base. They should be in harmony. By the way, the height of the shade is recommended to be three fourths of the base height and its bottom should be wider than that one of the base. Do not forget about a bulb. The bulb should not be too close to the shade. On average a distance between them should be no less than 2 inches. Though, in case of compact fluorescent bulbs it may be 1 inch. One more element affecting the choice is a fitter. Depending on use the lamp shade can have a clip-on fitter, a spider fitter and a slip- or threaded-UNO fitter. A spider fitter sits on the harp and its drop should be no less than 0.5 inches. The clip-on fitter is clipped on the bulb and secured by the clip. The difference between the slip- and threaded-UNO fitters lies in the fact that in the first case the fitter is beneath the bulb and in the second case it is above the bulb. The lamp shade with any type of these fitters has 1 or 2 inches drop.
