Being based on petroleum, kerosene can be dangerous for health. One more option is paraffin oil. Its fumes are not so harmful as those ones of kerosene.

Unlike paraffin and kerosene there are fragranced oils. They not only provide light and emit odor, but can help you to forget about mosquitoes and other insects. One of them is oil with aroma of lemongrass. It can be used in all types of oil lamps and makes away with insects. Lamp oil with aroma of lavender or rose creates romantic and pleasant atmosphere. There are also oils with aroma of wood, menthol, vanilla or without any aroma and colored oils. They can be used as decorative elements creating any atmosphere you want.

What differentiates lamp oil from kerosene? It is also based on petroleum, but better processed. It is much cleaner and can be used both outside and inside without damage to health. This oil tends to burn more in cold weather.

But as in case of any flammable substance, we should be very careful when filling a reservoir of the lamp with it. It must not be stored in a place where it can freeze. Frozen lamp oil can be explosive. If you want your oil lamp perform well, remove soot after use of the lamp. If you do not want to have a fire, do not forget about a chimney. It should be used always. There are plenty of instructions in the Net and specialized literature as for use of oil lamps, their cleaning and treatment. If you have bought such lamp, read them carefully before filling it with lamp oil.
