House Siding - Protection Of Your Homecategory Siding, posted June 9, 2011House siding is classified as technology of wall cladding. Boards used for this purpose are usually 0.7-10 mm thick, 2-6 meters long and 10-30 cm wide. Siding is rather new technology which has been used since 1960s. It should be said present-day PVC siding differs very much from the first siding used in 60s. By the way, the USA and Canadian manufacturers are considered to produce siding of the highest quality. As for key features of siding, they are long life (about 50 years), easy installation and maintenance, rather low price of materials. The most common types of house siding are vinyl, cedar, steel and aluminum siding. As for vinyl siding, it is resistant to dirt, non-toxic, flameproof, resistant to insects and fungi. Vinyl siding consists of boards made of PVC in form of bars with perforated edges for nails. Its surface can be smooth or imitate some natural materials. Wood siding is wood fiber compressed under pressure and high temperature. It is treated with protection paint. It is more expensive than vinyl siding, but not so popular, because can absorb water. Comparing types of house siding, it should be said, vinyl siding is not as durable and flameproof as metal siding. In turn, steel or aluminum siding does not breathe as good as wood siding. Metal siding often has polymer coating. As for installation of house siding, it is not recommended to install vinyl siding if the temperature is below zero. Space between siding and junction plate should be about 6 mm taking into account thermal deformation. Junction plates should be installed before installation of the cladding panel.
