As for soil-repellency properties, they can be improved by means of application of Teflon light coat. Color is one more factor influencing life time of the door mats. But this factor is mostly aesthetic. Dirt is not seen on mats of neutral colors unlike very light or dark ones. As for back side, it is commonly made of rubber, because it is elastic, resistant to humidity and protects floor from dirt. How to determine whether rubber is of high quality or not? In fact it is simple. Look at size of its pores. The smaller their size, the better rubber is. The door mats are also divided into indoor and outdoor ones. Indoor mats are absorbent unlike outdoor mats. And though both types of mats are meant for protection of our homes from dirt, they differ. The main difference between them is material. Carpet-topped mats are designed to be used indoors, because they are made of absorbent material. Do not use them outdoors! They will not help you to remove mud and dirt from your footwear, as well as woven mats. Though they are durable, these door mats absorb water very much.
